Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? Here are some answers to the most common questions. Feel free to contact me directly if you don't find the information you're looking for.

How do I make an appointment?

You can book an appointment online through my scheduling platform, by email at info@lauriannecrevier.com, or by phone at 514-250-8550. I'll get back to you as soon as possible to confirm your appointment.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No, you don't need a medical referral to see a physiotherapist in Quebec. You can book an appointment directly. However, some insurance companies may require a referral for reimbursement purposes.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring any relevant medical exams (X-rays, MRI, etc.), a list of your medications, athletic shoes if your problem involves the lower body, and comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated.

What is the cost of a session?

The initial assessment and follow-up sessions are $135 for a 45-60 minute appointment. Payment can be made by credit card, e-transfer, or cash. I provide an insurance receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if applicable.

Does my insurance cover physiotherapy?

Most private insurance plans cover physiotherapy. I'll provide you with a detailed receipt including my professional license number that you can submit to your insurer. Please check your coverage with your insurance company.

Do you offer direct billing to insurance?

I don't offer direct billing to insurance companies. You'll need to pay for the session and submit the receipt to your insurer for reimbursement.

Should I use ice or heat for my pain?

It depends on your specific condition. Generally, ice is recommended for acute injuries (less than 48-72 hours) to reduce inflammation and swelling. Heat is often better for chronic conditions to improve blood flow and relax muscles. During your appointment, I'll provide specific recommendations tailored to your situation.

Why do you give exercises when I'm in pain?

Targeted therapeutic exercises are a crucial part of recovery. They help strengthen weak muscles, improve flexibility, restore proper movement patterns, and prevent recurrence of your problem. While initial discomfort may occur, properly prescribed exercises should not increase your pain significantly. They are carefully selected to match your current capacity and gradually progress as you improve.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, its severity, chronicity, and your response to treatment. After the initial assessment, I can provide you with an estimate. Generally, acute conditions require 4-6 sessions, while chronic conditions may require more.

How often should I come for treatment?

Treatment frequency depends on your condition. Initially, weekly sessions may be recommended, then we'll gradually space them out as you improve. The goal is to make you independent in managing your condition.

Is my posture really important?

Yes, but not in the way many people think. Rather than focusing on 'perfect posture,' which doesn't actually exist, we aim for variety in your positions and movements. Staying in any position for too long can create stress on tissues and joints. During your treatment, I'll help you understand which positions may aggravate your condition and suggest strategies to reduce strain during daily activities.

Can physiotherapy help with dizziness and vertigo?

Yes, physiotherapy can be very effective for certain types of dizziness and vertigo, particularly those related to inner ear problems like Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). As a physiotherapist with specialized training in vestibular rehabilitation, I can assess your condition and provide appropriate treatment, which may include specific maneuvers and exercises to address your symptoms.

Can physiotherapy help with my headaches?

Yes, several types of headaches can be treated with physiotherapy, particularly tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches (originating from the neck). The assessment will determine if your headaches can benefit from physiotherapy treatment.

I'm pregnant, can I receive treatment?

Absolutely! Physiotherapy is safe during pregnancy and can help with various discomforts such as low back pain, pelvic pain, and pelvic floor issues. Techniques are adapted according to your trimester and specific needs.

What is dry needling and how does it differ from acupuncture?

Dry needling is a technique that uses thin filiform needles to target trigger points (tight knots) in muscles to reduce pain and improve function. While it uses similar needles to acupuncture, the approach differs significantly. Dry needling is based on Western medicine principles and targets specific anatomical structures, while traditional acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and focuses on energy meridians. I'm certified in dry needling and can incorporate this technique into your treatment if appropriate for your condition.

Do you use machines or equipment?

My approach focuses on manual techniques and therapeutic exercises, which are the most effective modalities according to research. I occasionally use complementary modalities such as taping or cupping based on specific needs.

What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy includes various hands-on techniques to assess and treat joint and muscle dysfunctions. This includes joint mobilizations, soft tissue techniques, and specific stretches to improve mobility and reduce pain.
